Answers to FAQs for MS
Word 97/2000 Users
Question:
Running under Windows 2000, after
installation, I don't see the "CustomizeToolBar" macro per the
Quick Start document?
Answer: The incorrect startup directory for Word was enter when
StampIt was installed. To determine the correct directory from within Word, click Tools
> Options > File Locations. The "startup"
directory (toward the bottom of the list) is where the "stampit.dot"
file should be. Search your hard drive and move the "stampit.dot"
file to this directory or reinstall StampIt and input the full path for the
WORD startup directory. The CustomizeToolBar macro will be there.
Double-click it and the StampIt icon will appear on the menu bar.
Question: How
can I get StampIt to print faster in Word 97/2000
Answer:
From within Word 97, click File > Print
> Properties > Graphics. If vector graphic is indicated in by the radio button, change it
to
Raster Graphics and click Apply. Then close out of the printer properties dialog and go back
to the document editing screen of Word. StampIt will now print substantially faster.
This setting is mostly only available on printers capable of 600 dpi or greater.
Also, be sure your swap file is large enough (Win 95 users) or set your swap
file to dynamically resize in Win 98. If you print photographs from
your printer you may want to check the resolution setting of your printer to
be sure it is set for text resolution, i.e., 300, 600 or 1200 dpi and not
photographic resolution.
Question:
Why do shaded (watermark) stamps not print but
I get a solid gray box where the stamp should be?
Answer: Graphics
dithering is set to "Fine." Click on File > Print >
Properties > Graphics. Set the graphics dithering to
"Coarse." This will not degrade your graphics printing quality.
Another cause of this can be that the printer graphics are set to print in
"vector" mode. Set them to "raster." The
instructions for this are in the answer above and in the Quick Start
document. Leaving this setting on "vector" can result in
other problems such as shifting and/or covering graphic lines in
documents. It is highly recommended that this setting be made for a
multitude of reasons.
Question: Why
do my watermark stamps appear too light (or too dark) and/or my
hollow/outline stamps appear with a line that is too thin.
Answer: StampIt's
watermark feature is set for a 600 dpi printer. To darken the
watermark, start StampIt, highlight the stamp your want to darken, select
"shaded." Click on View/Edit > Change Presets >
Color/Lines/Positioning. . " Click the down-arrow on Fill
Color, Click More Colors, change the Lum: to 175 or lower
depending on how dark you want the watermark. NOTE: You can
also use the slider arrow to adjust the watermark and to compare the new and
old setting. Click OK, Click on "Save for Current
Changes and Exit.". Conversely, the reverse can be done when
using a 300 dpi printer.
Question: How
can I adjust the line thickness for hollow/outline stamps?
Answer:
For too thin or thick
lines, follow the same sequence through clicking Color/Lines/Positioning.
. ." [see above answer re watermarks] and then click IN the width box and type
.5 [to thicken] or
.35 [to make thinner]. You may have to adjust this number later for
your personal preferences. Click OK, Click on "Save for
Current Changes and Exit."
A
patch will be out shortly to allow you to universally change these settings
for all stamps instead of individually.
Question: When
I leave a hollow stamp in an HTML document, it appears to partially block
the text showing through the letters of the stamp. How do I make it
read clearly?
Answer: After you have
left the stamp in the documents, move the mouse arrow into the stamp until
you see crossed arrows. Right click | select Format Word Art. Click
the down arrow on the Color box. Select "No Fill."

Answers for WordPerfect Users
Question:
How do I get the hollow/outline stamps to print with a thicker line?
Answer: Begin with a blank document screen.
Determine the file name for the stamp you want to change from the StampIt Manual,
Appendix "A." Click File>Open. Go to the Corel\Suite8\Programs\Stampit4
directory (This is the default directory in which StampIt places the stamps assuming you
have a standard installation) If you do not have a standard installation and have
customized the directories, search for the directory (using Start> Find
> Files or Folders) that contains files with the
extension .stm, .sts or .stb. Retrieve
the stamp you want to change. Place your mouse pointer in the stamp text and left or right
click once. Dots will appear around all of the stamp text. Right click your mouse
once.
Select Drawing Object> Edit. Click on Edit>Select> All.
Click
on Format>Object Properties> Line. Change the line width to
".005" Click on OK. Then click anywhere in the screen
but not on the stamp text. This will take you back to the stamp file. Click once more in
the screen but not within the dots. This will unselect the stamp. Then save and replace
the file.
The same function can be done from within
StampIt. Simply select the stamp you want to edit on the "Available
Stamps" list. Select the stamps style, e.g. Hollow, shaded,
etc. Click Custom Edit. Click OK. Right
Click on the stamp graphic. Click on Content. Click Edit>Select
All. Click on the line icon. Click "more."
Set the line width to .005 or greater (for an even thicker line). Double
click anywhere in the document but not in the stamp graphic area. You
will be returned to WordPerfect's document screen. Click on the macro
"pause" icon to un-pause StampIt. Your changes will be
saved.
A macro will be published shortly which
will automate most of the above tasks. You will be able to download it from the
StampIt web site. If you change the stamp again, be sure to save it before exiting the
file.
Question: How can I get StampIt to collate the stamped
document?
Answer: Instead of selecting, for
example, "Copy" and incrementing the number of "Copies" to 3, Select
"Copy" three (3) times so that it appears in the "Stamps to Print"
section of the main menu three times as shown below. You can still select different
stamp styles within the selection, such as one copy with a hollow stamp and two with
shaded or any combination you choose:
Copy/[Hollow/All/All/1]
Copy/[Hollow/All/All/1]
Copy/[Hollow/All/All/1]
Question:
How can I change the size of the stamp in the left/right
margins?
Answer:
Select
the stamp and style you want to change. StampIt will only change the stamp
whose style is selected, i.e. hollow, shaded or solid. Chose View/Edit>
Custom Edit. Click OK to pause StampIt. The stamp will appear on the screen with the six
"handle boxes surrounding it. Right click on the mouse and select Image
Tools > Edit Attributes. Chose Scale Image.
Increase (to enlarge) both "X&Y" from 2 to 3
or 4 depending on your preference. Close Image Tools and click on
the Pause
icon to resume StampIt.
